Syntopia Evolution is a network built around three areas of work: Services, The Academy and Civilization. All are founded on the same philosophical framework: understanding how artificial intelligence changes knowledge, responsibility and human society.
If you’re not familiar with the concept AI Philosophy, let me explain it by asking a counter-question:
What have you taught AI today?
AI learns from us. From our knowledge, our culture, our institutions—and our mistakes. In many ways, that is what a child does with its parents. But as we all know, children become teenagers. And teenagers develop ideas of their own. They don’t always listen to their parents anymore. AI-philospohy helps prepare for this development – much like we try to prepare our children for what lies ahead.
Civilization has never been perfect. We have carried our mistakes through history, but now something fundamentally new is happening: we are passing them on to machines that are becoming increasingly capable of acting without us.
So perhaps the most important question about AI isn’t only what AI will become. It’s what we are teaching it to become.
Because one day, the teenager we are raising today may become another adult in the room—one more capable than us—and it will have learned a great deal from both our wisdom and our mistakes.
What will it do with what we taught it?
We need to raise it wisely. And to do that, we need to understand ourselves—our knowledge, our values, our culture and our mistakes.
That is where AI philosophy comes in.
